Prince Hamzah Patronizes the 12th Arab Conference on Astronomy & Space Science and the 7th Islamic Astronomical Conference



The 12th Arab conference for Space Sciences and Astronomy and the 6th Islamic Astronomy Conference kicked off on Tuesday under the patronage of HRH Prince Hamzah, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported. The event, which presents 80 scientific and research papers by scholar and academicians from 28 countries, is hosted by the Royal Jordanian Geographic Centre (RJGC) and the Arab Union for Astronomy and Space Sciences (AUASS) in cooperation with the Jordanian Astronomical Society, Arab Regional Office of Astronomy for Development, and the Regional Centre for Space Science and Technology Education for Western Asia.

The event witnessed the participation of Kazakh astronaut Aidyn Aimbetov, who spoke of his space journey along with two other astronauts on Soyuz spacecraft, when they stayed in space for a record number of 850 days in five separate trips.

RJGC Director and AUASS Secretary General Awni Khasawneh stressed on the importance of the event which provides a chance to exchange expertise with distinguished astronomy scholars from across the world. AUASS President Humaid Nuaimi outlined the union’s achievements, activities and future plans while Piero Benvenuti, president of the International Astronomical Union praised Jordan’s role in spreading knowledge in the astronomical field.
